BIOGRAPHY
Award-winning painter Sharlene Stushnov has spent decades breathing life into canvases through her masterful use of oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Born just outside of Vancouver, BC, Sharlene's artistic journey began in the late '70s when she graduated from a fine arts program and moved to Calgary.
Joining the Canmore Artist and Artisans Guild marked a significant turning point in Sharlene's career, leading to her participation in a show at the illustrious Banff Springs Hotel—a showcase that would herald the beginning of a prolific exhibition career.
In 1982, Sharlene returned to her roots, settling on the picturesque Vancouver Island. Despite juggling various roles and responsibilities, including raising a family, her devotion to art never waned. By 2005, she embraced painting full-time, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her craft.
As an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) and a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA), Sharlene’s contributions to the Canadian art scene are undeniable. From 2012 to 2015, Her talent earned her a coveted spot as a juried member of the International Guild of Realism.
Not content with merely showcasing her art, Sharlene has also played a pivotal role in shaping Victoria's artistic landscape. As one of the directors at the Coast Collective Art Centre and a founding member of The Society for Arts on the South Island, she has actively championed the growth and accessibility of the arts. Additionally, her tenure of over a decade on the executive of the Victoria Chapter of the FCA underscores her commitment to fostering artistic excellence within her community.
Sharlene's paintings can be admired in venues such as the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Southshore Gallery in Sooke. Her pieces resonate with collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Currently residing in Victoria with her family, Sharlene continues to infuse her surroundings with the vibrant hues of her imagination. Through her brushstrokes, she invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and complexity of life, one canvas at a time.
